Nonprofits and Social Media

September 24, 2012 by Blair Stover

It doesn’t really matter if you are a non-profit or a regular business- the strategies that you should use when trying to connect with your base are typically the same. Managing social media in today’s modern world is the key if you want to get your name in as many households and companies as possible. Blair Stover explains some simple steps you should follow below.

Knowing Your Base. If you don’t know the type of people you need to interact with in the first place, you will get nowhere fast. You have to create promoters to generate energy, buzz and action about your product or business.

  1. Ask Around For Able Participants. Once you have your participants on board, they will help get things rolling by spreading the word. This will help bring more people on board. What this does is create a never-ending network of people that are interested in your business.
  2. Tie Everything Together. Use every single resource you have and form a website. Use buttons, badges, cross-site promotions and links to make sure the site is perfect. However, you want to make sure that all your info is on there as well. This includes pictures, activities, bios, contact info and so on.
  3. Don’t Push People for Money. If you push a person for donations, they are going to be less likely to give it to you. Just because a person gives you $10,000 doesn’t mean everyone will. Everyone giving you $100 is just the same as one person giving you a huge donation.
  4. Monitor the Sites. Always keep an eye on your site. The best thing to do is hire someone to run it and fulfill your social media management needs.
